2016 Audi RS 3 Sportback: Price And Features For Australia

Patience has paid off for devotees of Audi’s RS 3, with the new model set to arrive on Australian shores from October.

While the first generation RS 3 never made it here, the second generation car lands here with a starting price of $78,900

The RS 3 is powered by Audi’s iconic 2.5 litre in-line five cylinder engine, and sends 270Kw and 465Nm to its Quattro all wheel drive system, via a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.

To go with that power: a pair of front sports seats trimmed in diamond-quilted Nappa leather, LED headlights, and 19-inch alloy wheels, amongst other goodies.

For those keeping count, the RS 3 has the edge over the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG by 5kw and 15Nm, but that advantage is set to be short-lived with an updated 280kW/475Nm A45 on the way.

Under the bonnet is a re-worked version of Audi’s 2.5 litre five cylinder, as seen in the TT RS and previous RS 3. This latest version pushes out 270kW between 5500rpm and 6800rpm, with 470Nm between 1625rpm and 5500rpm.

Audi claims a 4.3 second 0-100km/h sprint time, with fuel consumption rated at 8.1 l/100km, helped out by a start/stop system.

Audi has also fitted a two-stage exhaust system, with muffler flaps that can be opened and closed depending on driving style to adjust the flow of exhaust gasses and boost the volume from the tailpipes.

A seven speed dual clutch automatic is the sole transmission on offer. It is mated to a performance-oriented all wheel drive system capable of transferring up to 100% of power to the rear wheels if required.

Electronically controlled torque vectoring is also part of the handling package. So too returned suspension.

The RS 3 sits 25mm lower than a standard A3, on RS-tuned MacPherson strut front, and multilink rear suspension. The front track sits 24mm wider, while the rear track gains a 4mm increase.

Inside, the front RS sports seats feature quilted Nappa leather, embossed with the RS 3 logo, offset with black Alcantara elsewhere in the interior.

There’s also dual-zone climate control, a ten-speaker audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, satellite navigation and DAB+ radio.

Other standard features include:

  • Airbags for diver and front passenger
