Audi AG has given a first glimpse of the 2017 A5 Coupe with the latest series of gif images online, ahead of the official global reveal on June 2, 2016. The two-door version of the A4, the teaser images reveal a great deal about the styling of the new A5 Coupe that gets several cosmetic upgrades over the A4 sedan with the new headlamps taking most prominence.
The headlamps on the 2017 Audi A5 Coupe are distinctive and slightly curved when compared to the one on the A4. The cluster also misses out on the lower edge cut that is seen on the A4 and A3 models. The headlight graphics are equally different and seem to be inspired by the flagship new generation R8. It is likely that Audi India will also offer the options of Xenon, LED and Matrix LED headlights on the new A5 Coupe, as is the case with almost every new Audi coming from to the market.
Audi A5 Coupe Teaser Aerodynamics
The 2017 Audi A5 Coupe promises to be more aerodynamic
The second gif released showcased the new A5 Coupe’s silhouette and will be far more aerodynamic than the current model. While the dark gif gives away little details, you can notice the curved hood that makes for a visually longer front, as well as a massive single-frame hexagonal occupies the front profile of the model. The roof line is curved too and integrates into the boot, while the wheel arches have been mildly accentuated and a muscular element to the European coupe.
It is said that the 2017 Audi A5 Coupe will be more aerodynamic than the A4, which already boasts a drag coefficient of 0.29. Being based on the A4’s MLB Evo platform, the new A5 will be lighter by a 100 kg that will further improve efficiency and performance. Speaking of the latter, engine options on the A5 Coupe will include four-cylinder and six-cylinder units, paired to a 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic transmission options. The top-end trims will get the Quattro All-Wheel Drive system as standard.
Suspension duties will be performed by the optional adaptive damping suspension, which will lower the height by 10mm, apart from offering different suspension settings via the Audi Drive Select. Interestingly, the 2017 Audi A5 Coupe won’t go on sale in India, but the country will get the A5 Sportback four-door version, which was recently caught testing in India.
