2017 Audi A5 coupe to debut on June 2 with 3D light show
Audi has announced that the next-generation A5 coupe will make its global debut on June 2nd, accompanied by a 3D light show in Ingolstadt, Germany.
After a year of spy photos and speculation surrounding the new A5/S5 models, the new generation will finally be unveiled – albeit just in coupe form – in a month’s time.
The new A5 is not expected to differ dramatically from the current generation, as spy photos have shown. However, with its new MLB underpinnings shared with the closely-related A4 mid-sizer and Q7 SUV, the A5 should drop around 90 to 100 kilograms from today’s model.
More significant changes will be made to the interior, that will employ a more minimalist design layout already previewed by the A3, A4, Q7 and TT.
Adding to the range will be Sportback and cabriolet variants, along with sportier S5 and possibly RS5 performance models.
The “Audi Late Light Show” has been created specifically for the Audi Forum building in Ingolstadt, and will feature sequences of projected images, flowing colours and music elements.
„Summer Sounds“ at the Audi Forum Ingolstadt
Using 55 video projectors, Hungarian artist group Maxin10sity will light up the Audi Forum building and transform the space for the 10-minute light shows, starting on Wednesday 25 May.
Toni Melfi, head of communications at Audi AG, said: “This art experience is a thank you to the Audi employees and the people of Ingolstadt”.
“In Ingolstadt, we have developed the new Audi A5 coupe, we produce it here, and we will present it here as a new design icon to the world press for the first time on June 2.”
With the A5 coupe to be unveiled on June 2nd, the cabriolet and Sportback variants of the new model are likely to follow later this year, possibly at October’s Paris motor show, before going on sale sometime next year.
Expect the regular range to be joined later by the hotter S5 and hardcore RS5 later in 2017 or early-2018.
