Airbag problems prompt Audi A3 Cabriolet recall
Audi has issued a relatively small recall for the 2015 Audi A3 Cabriolet to fix an airbag problem.
Some of the convertibles may have been manufactured with improper stitching covering the side airbags on both front seats, preventing proper deployment in certain crash scenarios.
“In a side impact crash where airbag deployment is indicated, this issue can result in increased injury risk to the occupant seated there,” the recall documents warn. “No accidents or injuries related to this issue have been reported.”
Audi’s investigation concluded that a supplier or sub-supplier had made changes to the seat stitching that had not been approved by the automaker. The issue was discovered in February during routine airbag testing by seat supplier Lear.
Service technicians will install new seatback covers to restore proper function of both airbags.
