Audi 60 second spot during Super Bowl is ‘out of this world’

Audi‘s 60-second commercial is one of the best of the Super Bowl

Audi is usually making headlines when they debut new vehicles around the world, but the maker of German-engineered luxury vehicles is making garnering this weekend, and going forward with their epic Super Bowl commercial called “The Commander.” It’s a peek at the new Audi R8 V10 plus. It aired during the first quarter of Sunday’s game. Also, interested parties can see a 90-second extended version of the ad on Audi’s YouTube channel.

The ad features the song “Starman,” as sung by the late and great David Bowie. This unique ad features a former astronaut who finds his love of life as he turns over the coveted keys to a new Audi R8 V10 to his son. The son then appears to take the trip of a lifetime in his new car and under the stars. Audi is no stranger to having a Super Bowl ad placement, but this ad marks its return to the big football game.

“The Super Bowl continues to be a national platform for brands to showcase their creativity and voice,” offers Loren Angelo, director of brand marketing for Audi of America. “Audi was the first luxury auto maker to begin advertising in the Super Bowl nearly a decade ago, and the NFL remains an important platform for reaching our consumers.”

While positive reviews are expected for Audi’s commercial, the same is expected for the R8 V10 as it goes on sale in the U.S. this spring. An extended, 90-second version of the Super Bowl ad will air on Sunday can also be seen on YouTube. Football fans are a nostalgic bunch and including the “space” theme is bound to bring back some good memories.

Audi has had 61 straight months of year-over-year sales growth. In the first R8 commercial, a cameo by Kenny G appeared in parody of the movie, The Godfather. Audi feels there is a risk and reward factor to be considered when producing a Super Bowl commercial, but it’s worth the risk. Not that we need to go this fast, but the new Audi R8 V10 plus has a top speed of 205 mph. This also includes a 3.2-second 0-60 mph time. A V10 engine should be more than enough power to get up to speed as you merge on to the interstate.

Gadget geeks will be happy to hear that the newest Audi took its category in the Daytona 24 Race Classic and it showcases all the latest Audi technology including Audi Virtual Cockpit, a new improvement that takes the place of the common and ordinary instrument panel. 4G LTE Audi connect will make navigating a snap as your drive your R8 V10 everywhere on earth, or as the commercial hinted, leaving earth.
