Audi all-electric SUV in Australia by 2020, entire line-up to get electrified
Audi is looking to introduce several electrified models in Australia by the end of the decade, including a fully-electric vehicle (EV) likely to be released around 2019.
Speaking to CarAdvice at the preview of the all-new Q2 SUV in Sydney, Anna Burgdorf, general manager for corporate communications at Audi Australia, confirmed the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Q7 e-tron will arrive locally within the next year, while an EV model is expected before the end of the decade.
“The next hybrid model that you’ll see from us, on top of the A3 e-tron, is the Q7 e-tron. That will come within the next 12 months,” she said.
“For us as a brand it’s about sustainability, and it’s about ensuring we are in the market for the long term, and it is important for us that we keep reducing consumptions.”
“We’ve made no secret of the fact that by 2018 we’ll have an all-electric SUV – 2018 worldwide so it could be 2019 for Australia,” she added.

Audi’s communications boss also confirmed that an electrified version of each model line will be offered very soon.
“We will have an [electrified] car in every model line before too long,” she said. “It’s the next step. We will of course offer that to our customers.”
Audi’s first all-electric model is likely to be branded the Q6 e-tron, previewed by the e-tron quattro concept that was revealed at last year’s Frankfurt motor show.
The company has already confirmed an all-electric SUV will debut in 2018, though it has remained tight-lipped as to what will power the car or what it will be called – however, an electric range of 500 kilometres is expected.
In May, Rupert Stadler, chairman of Audi, said at the company’s annual generation meeting that an electrified model will be released each year from 2018.
