Audi has begun production at their new plant in Curitiba, Brazil.
While it’s not unusual for companies to have a number of overseas facilities, the Curitiba factory is unique as it will become the first factory to produce the A3 Sedan 1.4 TFSI Flex. It features a 1.4-liter TFSI engine that can run on petrol, ethanol or a combination of both fuels. This is important in Brazil as the country is the world’s largest market for flex-fuel engines and more than 90% of cars sold there have flex-fuel technology.
In a statement, Audi do Brasil CEO Jörg Hofmann said “With local production of the Audi A3 Sedan and – a few months later – the Audi Q3, we will be ideally positioned to fulfill the wishes of our Brazilian customers.”
