Audi Drops More Details Of Its All-electric Q6 e-tron Quattro Concept

Following on from the first leaked images of Audi’s Q6 e-tron Quattro concept, the company has offered a few more sketches of its coming Tesla Model X fighter.

The Q6 e-tron will become Audi’s first purpose-built electric vehicle. Unlike previous e-tron models based off existing internal combustion designs, the Q6 has been designed with batteries and electric motors in mind.

Inside the cabin there’s seating for four, with lithium ion batteries placed below the floor, helping to keep a low centre of gravity for improved handling.

Cabin control is via OLED screens, with a curved display in the centre console, one standing in for the infotainment system, another taking the place of a traditional instrument cluster, and one for the rear passengers as well.

OLED Matrix headlights make their premiere in the Q6 e-tron too, bringing brighter, more precise headlight control.

An electric drive system borrowed from the R8 e-tron places one electric motor at the front axle, with two motors on the rear axle.

Electric range is claimed to be in excess of 500 kilometres, helped out by a slippery co-efficient of drag of just 0.25.

Other aerodynamic enhancements include moveable aerodynamic elements in the front end, and a completely closed underbody to reduce drag and improve range. Audi refers to these features under the “Aerosthetics” tag.

Beneath the skin the Q6 e-tron Quattro concept rolls on a second generation version of the MLB platform, which already underpins the new Q7 SUV.

It’s length places the Q6 between the Q5 and Q7, but with a lower, flatter roofline. Despite the coupe name, the Q6 features five doors.

The concept wears Audi’s new SUV styling language. Although not groundbreakingly different from Audi’s past, the biggest changes can be seen in the reprofiled grille and slimmer front and rear lights.

The Q6 e-tron Quattro Concept will make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. We’ll have more info in the leadup to the show.
