Audi E-tron Quattro Concept Officially Brakes Cover

The fully electric e-tron quattro concept has been unveiled.

After multiple teasers, the Audi e-tron quattro concept finally gets unveiled. Sporting an all-electric e-tron quattro drive with up to 370 kW and an extremely low drag coefficient of 0.25, the car is Audi’s statement on the future of electric mobility.

“Audi will present an all-electric, luxury-class sport SUV in early 2018. The Audi e tron quattro concept provides a concrete foretaste of this. It combines driving pleasure with great range, an expressive design and excellent comfort”, says Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, Member of the Audi Board of Management for Technical Development.

Using the power of three electric motors – one driving the front axle, while the other two driving the rear axle – the concept manages to achieve a total output of 320 kW and, while in boosting mode, over 800 Nm (590.0 lb-ft). That’s enough grunt to propel the automobile and its SUV-esque proportions from a standstill to 100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 4.6 seconds, all the way to an electronically-limited top speed of 210 km/h (130.5 mph).

The three-electric motor layout is a first for Audi. An intelligent drive management system controls the interplays between the motors, as appropriate for the situation. In other words, Audi just took the quattro all-wheel-drive system to whole new level, although the focus is on the greatest possible efficiency. During sporty driving, the Torque Control Manager actively distributes the power between the rear wheels as necessary, whilst providing for maximum dynamics and stability.

The e-tron quattro has the large lithium-ion battery – which feeds the motors – integrated into the floor of the passenger compartment, thus offering a balanced axle load distribution and low center of gravity. The battery’s capacity of 95 kWh enables a range of over 500 kilometers (310.7 miles).

The Combined Charging System (CCS) allows charging with AC or DC electrical current. In the case of the latter, a full charge at a 150kW charging column takes only 50 minutes. Moreover, the concept comes equipped with Audi Wireless Charging technology for contactless induction charging.
