Hungary’s foreign minister, Peter Szijjarto has announced Audi‘s factory in Gyor will receive a €104 million investment.
The announcement was made today to MTI national news agency and €19 million of the total investment will come from the Hungarian government. Szijjarto went on to specify 380 jobs will be added at the Gyor factory where Audi currently assembles the A3 Sedan, A3 Cabriolet, TT Coupe and TT Roadster. Moreover, this is the place where several engines are produced for a variety of models part of the Volkswagen Group.
This new investment plan comes after the company announced earlier this month they made three million EA189 diesel engines fitted with a defeat device, thus generating concerns regarding the future of the factory which in 2014 assembled 135,232 cars and produced 1.97 million engines.
It remains to be seen whether the new investment has anything to do with those rumors regarding a TT lineup expansion by adding a crossover (TTQ) or a four-door version (TT Sportback).
