Audi renames Quattro subsidiary to Audi Sport GmbH
Audi has officially renamed its Quattro GmbH division to Audi Sport GmbH.
The unit was established in 1983 when the Audi Quattro dominated rally racing with its four-wheel-drive system. ‘Quattro’ no longer carries the same connotation of racing supremacy.
The new label appears to better reflect the wholly-owned subsidiary’s product responsibilities, including development and production of the R8 and RS variants. The division also handles customer motorsport, Audi exclusive customizations and lifestyle products.
“The subsidiary’s focus is to create the most prestigious models in the portfolio of Audi AG,” the company said in a statement.
The subsidiary is running strong, doubling its sales over the past five years. No less than eight new Audi Sport models will be launched in the next 18 months, while its dealer footprint will jump from 370 showrooms to 600 locations by the end of 2017.
