The Lake Illawarra Local Area Command of the New South Wales Police Force has taken delivery of an Audi RS4 Avant.
It will act as a police car for the following 12 months and will use this special livery which was selected by hundreds of fans on Audi Australia’s Facebook page. The car’s role will be to provide support for several community and youth engagement programs, so it won’t be used to catch bad guys on the run although it would have the necessary hardware to catch speeding cars thanks to its powerful 450 PS 4.2-liter V8 naturally aspirated engine.
Upon receiving the hot compact wagon, Superintendent Wayne Starling, Commander of Lake Illawarra LAC said “the Audi RS 4 provides an exciting and visible platform for our community and youth engagement activities” and will “encourage people of all ages to introduce themselves to local police, using the car itself to help start up a conversation.”
As most of you know, a new RS4 is in the works and will eschew the V8 in favor of a V6 3.0-liter engine equipped with e-turbo technology. Quattro GmbH chief Heinz Hollerweger has already announced the new RS4 will come relatively early in the A4’s life cycle, so it will likely be introduced sometime next year.
