Audi was seen testing a prototype of the facelifted S3 Sportback on the streets of Copenhagen in Denmark.
Being a model from the Volkswagen Group that is about to receive a mid-cycle facelift, it’s no wonder the cosmetic revisions will be minor. Just like with the A3 Sedan, A3 Cabrio, and three-door A3, the hotter S3 Sportback seen here has camouflage on the front fascia to hide what appears to be an A4-inspired design. The spy images at the source link below also show the prototype’s rear end that carries some disguise, but we wouldn’t hold our breath for any big changes.
As far as the interior cabin is concerned, the biggest news has to do with an optional Audi Virtual Cockpit which will stand for a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster with numerous customization options. This isn’t exactly a novelty as it has been available for quite some time on the new R8, Q7, and the A4.
It’s not known at this point whether Audi’s engineers will fiddle with the S3’s turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine which currently puts out 292 horsepower (221 kW) and 280 pound-feet (380 Nm) of torque. Linked to the standard six-speed manual gearbox, the engine enables the hot hatchback to hit 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) from a standstill in 5.5 seconds. When mated to the optional six-speed S tronic, the sprint time drops to five seconds. Regardless of gearbox choice, the top speed is electronically capped at 155 mph (250 kph).
We believe Audi will bring the entire facelifted A3 family at the Geneva Motor Show in a little over a month from today. MQB brothers like the VW Golf, SEAT Leon, and the Skoda Octavia will also receive a facelift (likely in this order) later this year.
