Audi is turning up the wick for the S8 sedan with a new Plus model that heightens performance of this V-8-powered luxury bruiser. Debuting in Europe later this year, the Audi S8 Plus has a whole 85 hp more than the standard Audi S8, helping it get to an ungoverned top speed of 189 mph. The Audi S8 Plus is powered by the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 as the standard S8, but a different engine control module, a reworked turbocharger, and modified exhaust valves bring its output up to 605 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. An overboost function can provide up to 553 lb-ft of torque, and the upgraded sedan gets from 0-60 mph in a quick 3.8 seconds, according to Audi. All this power is put to the ground through an eight-speed automatic and Quattro all-wheel drive with a sport differential.

Subtle exterior tweaks mean that the Audi S8 Plus still mostly flies under the radar, but details like the rear lip spoiler, carbon fiber trim pieces, darkened taillights, and gloss-black grille hint at the performance potential of this sleeper sedan. Sharp-looking 21-inch wheels wrap around 275/35 tires, and the S8’s adaptive air suspension and dynamic steering systems receive different tuning for the highest-performance S8. We can’t help but wonder why Audi doesn’t call this car the RS8, as it provides even more power than the Audi RS7 which packs 560 hp from the same 4.0-liter V-8. Regardless of what it’s called, we’re doubtful that the Audi S8 Plus will come to the U.S. anytime soon, so we’re still stuck with the regular 2016 Audi S8, which costs $114,900 to start and comes with the 520-hp version of the twin-turbo V-8.
