Cadillac XT5 earns Top Safety Pick Plus rating [Video]
Cadillac‘s new XT5 has earned a Top Safety Pick Plus rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The SRX’s replacement received ‘good’ ratings in each crash category, indicating a low risk of significant injuries in similar real-world accident scenarios. In the small-overlap test, intrusion reached a maximum of around three inches at the toepan and instrument panel.
“The dummy’s head loaded the frontal airbag, which stayed in front of the dummy until rebound,” the IIHS small-overlap report says. “The side curtain airbag deployed and has sufficient forward coverage to protect the head from contact with side structure and outside objects.”
The crossover received two separate ratings for available automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems. The low-speed AEB system avoided a collision at 12 mph but only reduced speed by nine mph when approaching an obstacle from 25 mph, qualifying for an ‘advanced’ assessment. An optional upgrade package completely stopped from 25 mph in four out of five tests, but impacted in the fifth. Despite the contact, IIHS judged the system as ‘superior.’
Rivals with TSP+ ratings include the Acura MDX, Infiniti QX60, Lexus RX, Lincoln MKX, Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, Volvo XC90, Acura RDX, Volvo XC60, Lexus NX and Audi Q5.
