Frankfurt Motor Show – Audi Q6 E-Tron Quattro Concept Unveiled

Audi has pulled the covers from its Q6 E-Tron Quattro concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show, following a lengthy teaser campaign.

The concept is designed to preview Audis of the future, as it boasts an all-electric drivetrain with up to 370kW and an ultra-low 0.25 drag coefficient.

And the EV future is not far off for Audi, with plans to debut a production version of the Q6 as early as 2018 as a premium SUV model.

Three electric motors are on-board, with one each for the rear wheels and a single motor at the front.

Available power under normal driving is 320kW, but under ‘boost mode’, power lifts to 370kW with over 800Nm of torque.

Such power and minimal drag makes for a 0-100km/h time of 4.6 seconds, and the concept has an electronically-controlled top speed of 210km/h.

The electric motors are powered by a sizable 95kWh battery pack which enables a maximum range of over 500km from a full charge. The battery pack is mounted in the base of the vehicle to ensure a low centre of gravity.

Rather than power all three motors constantly, range is maximised via a new version of Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system which manages the power split between the three power units depending on driving conditions.

Charging can take place using either AC or DC current, and a full charge can be achieved in as little as 50 minutes. A wireless charging system also forms part of the package, which will no doubt boost the appeal of the model when it goes on sale.

Inside, the Q6 concept offers up 615 litres of storage in the cargo area and seating for four people. Besides two groups of buttons on the steering wheel, almost all of the interior controls come via a pair of touchscreens.

Outside, the concept features LED lighting front and rear with laser technology for the front, and the dimensions are 4880mm long, 1930mm wide and 1540mm high.
