Lamborghini chief to head Audi‘s Quattro division
Confirming recent reports, Audi has announced that Lamborghini chief executive Stephan Winkelmann has been hired to serve as CEO of Quattro GmbH.
After spending more than a decade leading the Raging Bull marque, also owned by Volkswagen Group, Winkelmann has been credited with helping the brand achieve record sales and develop its first SUV to be sold alongside the Huracán and Aventador.
In his new post at Audi’s wholly-owned subsidiary, the executive will lead the Audi Sport brand, development and distribution of R and RS models, and the car customization services of Audi exclusive. The company notes that Audi Sport will be positioned more clearly going forward.
Winkelmann will succeed Heinz Hollerweger, a retiring executive who spearheaded the R8 e-tron project from concept to expected production. He was at the helm as more than 70 models were put into production.
“Heinz Hollerweger has been one of the catalysts for Audi’s path into electric mobility,” said Audi AG development chief Stefan Knirsch. “He also contributed decisively to the success and expansion of Quattro GmbH.”
Lamborghini has hired former Scuderia Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali to serve as chief executive.
