China is getting a stretched version of the new Audi A4, which will add 3.5 inches of length (3 inches of which goes to the wheelbase) to the standard model for improvements in legroom and comfort. The A4’s quiet cabin and high degree of technology are likely to be a good fit for the Chinese market, especially considering the improvements compared to the last generation.
The new Audi A4 L increases its wheelbase by 1.6 inches more than last generation, despite slashing weight by 242.5 pounds. That’s a major weight loss, especially considering that the maximum loss for the U.S.-spec A4 generation-to-generation is 99 pounds for front-wheel-drive versions.

Despite the longer wheelbase, the A4’s look isn’t much changed. All of Audi’s sedans from the A3 on up to the A8 have a similar design, and all the extra inches add is a bit of chunkiness to the shape of the rear doors, and a slightly less sporty silhouette, particularly in profile.
Two engines will be offered for the China-only Audi A4 L. Both are 2.0-liter four-cylinder options, churning out either 190 hp or 252 hp, routed to either front- or all-wheel-drive systems through a standard seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Standard fare on the A4 L includes goodies like Xenon headlights and a 7-inch MMI color display, although the full suite of Audi connect technology, driver assistance, and safety features are offered as well.
The Audi A4 L will come to the Chinese market toward the end of summer 2016.
