Mercedes-Benz was relegated to the third spot in the world’s luxury segment sales race but it has emerged as a victor from the start of the year, so far leading the pack ahead of BMW and Audi.

While all three automakers are delivering better year-over-year results, the Daimler owned brand is faring the best, leading the race through August. Throughout the first eight months of the year the Mercedes-Benz has delivered 1.32 million vehicles thus winning the volume battle among German luxury brands – thanks to a 12 percent surge in sales compared to the same period in 2015. The marquee has been helped by its crossover and SUV sales – they alone jumped 40 percent in August.

BMW has fallen to the second position after delivering a total of 1.28 million units through August, which is a 5.5 percent increase year-over-year. Audi is in third position now with 1.23 million vehicles so far, as it recorded the smallest gain among the trio – 4.9 percent. The brands are also looking towards the future – with huge reveals on time for the Paris Motor Show, such as the Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster, the BMW 5 Series or the Audi A5 Coupe and Sportback.
