Mitsubishi to unveil Ground Tourer Concept in Paris
Mitsubishi will unveil new SUV concept known as the Ground Tourer Concept at this year’s Paris Motor Show.
Mitsubishi is keeping the details of the Ground Tourer Concept a secret until the start of the Paris show, but the Japanese automaker says the up-market SUV will be powered by a plug-in hybrid electric drivetrain. Mitsubishi’s lone teaser image suggests the Ground Tourer Concept will be a larger vehicle, potentially on par with utility vehicles like the Audi Q7.
“An up-market SUV, the Ground Tourer Concept is aimed to be the latest expression of Mitsubishi Motors’ design ambitions, expressed through four powerful elements: Augmented Possibilities, Functional Beauty, Solid Thrust and Japanese Craftsmanship,” Mitsubishi said in a statement.
It remains to be seen if the production version of the Ground Tourer Concept will be sold in the United States. The Japanese automaker has been struggling with a recent fuel economy scandal, which could cost the company upwards of $1.4 billion. Some have speculated that the scandal could force Mitsubishi to leave the U.S. market to focus on its more profitable regions.
