Modern pocket rocket alleviates the fan need for an Audi RS1 image
The four-ringed automaker isn’t looking to deliver any RS1 high performance contraptions, instead settling for the S1 as the top of the range. But there are solutions to this predicament.
While the A1 is slightly growing long in the teeth and we’re eagerly waiting for Audi to deliver its successor, fans of the current generation can resort to B&B Automobiltechnik to satisfy their thirst for performance, That’s because the tuning specialist has customized the S1 through no less than five stages of power – with the top one delivering from the turbocharged 2.0-liter engine no less than 380 horsepower (279 kilowatts) and 399 pound-feet (540 Newton meters) of torque. That compares very well to the regular S1, which after the latest update operates with 231 hp (170 kW) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm).
And if you’re still not sure of the power increase, just remember the larger RS3 model with its beefy 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine delivers 367 hp & 465 Nm, with the tweaked out S1 by B&B being the faster beast as it’s definitely lighter. The S1 with the stage 5 kit on will sprint to 62 mph (100 kph) in 4.5 seconds and will run the 0-124 mph (0-200 kph) mark in just 16.8 seconds on its way to the impressive 177 mph (285 kph) top speed. These mindful progress will definitely be costly, though. No less than €10,000 (about $11,110) is needed for the entire pack. And you can deliver even more money to the tuner if you want the optional sports spring set (€298 / $331), the beefier brakes at €3,295 / $3,663 or the tuner’s 18-inch wheels available for €2,298 / $2,554.
