Audi A8 L Security
Audi has redesigned its A8 L Security to be tougher and safer than ever before.
The car now classifies as resistance class VR9, which means that it can withstand bullets from military rifles, and it isn’t susceptible to splinters from hand grenades and explosive charges. To provide this protection, aramide fabric, special aluminum alloys and hot-formed steel armor are used.
Standard features offered with the A8 L Security include an armored communication box in the luggage compartment, an intercom for communicating with people outside the vehicle and selective door locking. Of course, Audi will also customize the car for the buyer, who can choose from options like Audi’s patented emergency exit system, a fire extinguishing setup or even an emergency fresh air system.
2015 Frankfurt Motor Show Preview
Audi claims to have the best payload for any armored high-security vehicle, with the Security rated to haul 1,322.8 lbs. Moving that weight along is either a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 with 435 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque, or an optional W12 that cranks out 500 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque. Top speed for the car is electronically governed at 130.5 mph in consideration of emergency run-flat tires.
The redesigned Audi A8 L Security is built in partnership between the Neckarsulm plant and a top-secret factory. Orders are now being accepted, while delivery is scheduled to begin in Spring, 2016. Pricing was not announced, but it’s safe to say that this car won’t come cheap.
Next week’s 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show will host the public debut of the car. Come back to AutoGuide.com to see all the details, live from Germany.
