Paris LIVE: 2018 Audi Q5
Audi has introduced the second-generation Q5 at the Paris Motor Show, confirming an evolutionary design shift and equipment enhancements for the best-selling crossover.
The front fascia has received the most noticeable styling changes, switching from a trapezoidal grille to Audi’s modern flared Singleframe design with horizontal bars and thicker silver surround.
The redesigned Q5 is slightly larger in nearly every dimension, providing a bit more luggage space and more knee room for rear passengers. Despite the bigger chassis, a combination of high-strength steel and aluminum allowed weight to be dropped by nearly 200 pounds.
Engineers and designers succeeded in improving aerodynamics, reducing fuel consumption and mitigating wind noise and vibration. The company’s ‘ultra’ technology comes standard with four-cylinder models, leaving the rear axle disengaged when not needed.
Buyers can now use an adaptive air suspension system to adjust ride height, complementing existing controls for damper firmness.
The interior has received a long list of improvements over the outgoing model, with revised styling and Audi’s latest infotainment and safety technologies. Ambient lighting can switch between 30 different colors, setting the mood while occupants are blasted by an available Bang & Olufsen sound system.
The new Q5 will first arrive in Europe by early next year. Audi has not yet confirmed specific details for the US-bound edition.
