Spied: 2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet
The 2017 Audi A5 Cabriolet was spotted testing at the ‘ring today, and while it was fairly heavily camouflaged, we can at least pick out some styling hints.
It’s fairly clear from these shots that the new A5 Cabrio will look a lot like the current one, which is par for the course when it comes to Audi‘s model redesigns.
The tumblehome look of the existing model remains, along with the distinctive character line running along the top of the body. We can also see quite plainly that Audi intends to keep the A5 Cabrio a soft-top.
Under the camo, we can see the Cabrio’s signature Audi head lamps and narrow LED tail lamps. The grille is also a bit slimmer to our eyes, but that could simply be a trick of the disguise.
Audi’s updated A5 will migrate to VW Group’s updated B9 (“MLB 2″/”MLB Evo”) platform, meaning it will take advantage of Audi’s latest weight-saving technologies while offering increased interior room thanks to a slight overall size increase and likely lengthening of the wheelbase.
Production of the new A5 is expected to begin later this year. Coupe and Cabriolet variants are essentially a given for the U.S. market, but there’s also a chance we’ll see the Sportback variant this time around. Stay tuned.
