Spied: 2018 Audi SQ2
Audi’s upcoming SQ2 performance SUV has broken cover on Germany’s Nurburgring. The SQ2 will add to Audi’s growing family of performance-minded vehicles.
The SQ2 will be based on the Q2 compact crossover set to hit dealer showrooms later this year. However, unlike the regular Q2, the SQ2 is expected to lift its drivetrain from the S3 sedan.
That should mean a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder belittling out nearly 300 horsepower. Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system will ensure that power reaches the tarmac in an efficient manner. A six-speed dual-clutch automatic will handle shifting duties.
Exact timing for the SQ2’s launch remains unknown at this time. A 2017 launch seems likely, but Audi could hold off on the hopped-up SUV until 2018. Pricing should start from about $48,000.
Although the SQ2 will represent the pinnacle of the Q2 line at the time of its launch, it might not keep that position for long. Audi is reportedly developing an RSQ2 model that will use the same 362 horsepower turbocharged inline five-cylinder from the TT RS.
