Updated Audi S3 (European spec)
Audi has just updated its A3 range of compact sedans, hatchbacks and convertibles.
The updates are extensive and affect the sporty S3 models as well.
The biggest change affecting the S3 is a new engine. The engine is Audi’s latest turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, which made its debut in the 2017 A4 range.
Updated Audi S3 Sportback (European spec)
In the S3, the high-tech unit delivers 310 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Those needing still more power can look forward to an all-new RS 3 launching next year. Note, figures stated are for the European model so numbers in the United States may differ. Specifications for our market should be revealed soon.
In addition to the new engine, the aging 6-speed dual-clutch transmission of the current S3 has made way for a new 7-speed unit in the updated model. It features a wet clutch as opposed to a dry clutch used in the older unit. Drive is still to all four wheels as standard.
Audi says its engineers also tweaked the electronic stability and all-wheel-drive system for enhanced performance.
Updated Audi S3 Cabriolet (European spec)
The rest of the changes mirror those of the updated A3. The list includes styling tweaks, a digital instrument cluster, updated menus for the infotainment system, and new electronic driving aids including a traffic jam assistant. Overseas models also get Audi’s Matrix LED headlights that enable you to leave your high beams permanently on. To avoid blinding other drivers, camera-based systems detect oncoming vehicles and actively block out parts of the light beam.
Sales of the updated S3 commence overseas this summer. Availability in the U.S. will be announced at a later date.
