Volkswagen identifies CO2 offenders from Audi, Seat, Skoda and VW

Volkswagen’s ongoing investigation into “irregularities” with their CO2 emissions data has determined approximately 430,000 vehicles from the 2016 model year are affected.

This is substantially less than the original estimate of 800,000 vehicles but the latest information only includes 2016 models.  Volkswagen is working with authorities to determine how many older vehicles are affected but they still anticipate the total figure will include about 800,000 vehicles.

Volkswagen is informing relevant authorities about their latest findings and the company will be cooperating with the German Federal Vehicle and Transport Authority (KBA) to determine new CO2 figures for affected vehicles.

In the coming weeks, the information will be added to national customer information websites, so users can enter their vehicle identification number (VIN) to determine if their vehicle is affected.

For the time being, the company has released a list that indicates dozens of models are affected including:

  • Audi A1
  • Seat Ibiza
  • Seat Toledo
  • Seat Leon
  • Skoda Fabia
  • Skoda Rapid
  • Skoda Octavia
  • Skoda Yeti
  • Skoda Superb
  • Volkswagen Polo
  • Volkswagen Tiguan
  • Volkswagen Jetta
  • Volkswagen Scirocco
  • Volkswagen Golf
  • Volkswagen Touran
  • Volkswagen Passat
  • Volkswagen CC
  • Volkswagen Caddy
  • Volkswagen T6

Volkswagen is taking full responsibility for the issue and is in talks with financial and fiscal authorities so all taxes arising from the CO2 irregularities will be charged to the automaker instead of consumers.
