Who Wins? More Powerful Audi R8 V10 Plus Vs. Lighter McLaren 570S

Germany vs. Britain, on track, at speed.

The Audi R8 V10 Plus could well be the ultimate supercar, it’s basically a Lamborghini Huracan in a bespoke German suit and it’s available for a lot less money than the Italian. The 5.2-liter V10 produces 610 hp with 413 lb-ft of torque, and with that great quattro all-wheel drive system and a brilliant launch control it propels the car to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds. It tips the scales at 3,572 lbs, heavier than the video rival McLaren 570S at 3,100 lbs. Is that saving enough to make the 562-hp 570S a faster car? The main ingredient in the McLaren’s recipe is boost, this allows for better power curves from that 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8.

The McLaren 570S is down on power by 48 horses but up on torque by 30 lb-ft, and with power only going to the rear wheels, it makes for a more challenging drive on the limit. The McLaren also has a much tighter chassis derived from the manufacturer’s Formula 1 technologies essentially making it a precision tool on track. The Audi R8 V10 Plus is on rails in the bends, but looks to be a little slower to get back on the power after a turn. At the hands of race driver Ashley Oldfield, both cars are put through their paces at Cape Town’s Killarney Racetrack with the results captured on video for proof. Which car is your money on to take the win? Will the times be close or is there a hiding to be had?
